But who's really winning?

Sat May 03, 2008 at 07:08:17 AM PDT

Forget delegates, votes, states won and even super delegates. Let's have some fun and look just at who has the most endorsements in celebrities. Anyone famous in sports, music, film, theatre, literature, science, and television is eligible. Except I'm only counting non-politician, famous people (because I make the rules dammit) - so no Arnold (Schwarzenegger), but Arnold the pig (Green Acres) could go on the  list if he made known his preference (and if he were still alive).

As it seems now, Barack leads in the big name celebrities (the super celebrity) and the total count. But Hillary is in it to win it and McCain may just be sand bagging the whole cast from Murder She Wrote. Who knows how this will end? How exciting.

This also makes for such tantalizing celebrity matchups as:

Ralph Macchio (BO) v. Sylvester Stallone (HC)
Toni Morrison, Michael Chabon, and Stephen King (BO) v. Maya Angelou (HC)
Oprah (BO) v. Jerry Springer & Ellen Degeneres(HC)

How about Leonard Nimoy (BO) v. Mr. Sulu (HC)? Would William Shatner be a tiebreaker (undecided as far as I know).

This is what 13,000+ in PHX sounds like.

Crazy exciting. And this is where you sit when you get lost in traffic.

"Regarding the pole..."

Sun Sep 09, 2007 at 01:58:12 PM PDT

Russell Pearce is a state representative here in AZ who is testing the primary waters for a possible run against fellow Republican Jeff Flake. Apparently (and apparently he can’t spell apparently), GOPUSA put a poll (please note the spelling of poll Russ) on its web site and Russell – R (the R might stand for Republican, but here it just as easily could stand for Racist) was behind Flake in its internet poll (again, please note the spelling Russ).

He is very upset that his supporters aren't voting multiple times.

Arizona Poll results: real and a bizarre push poll

Arizona Poll results: real and a bizarre push poll

Two things: A quick recap on polling from Cronkite-Eight polling on Arizona races and ballot initiatives and a new push poll story that is both sad and laughable.

First the bad news: In a poll of 846 registered voters, Peterson trails Kyl by 10 points (46%-36%, 18% Undecided).

Wicked Fun at Wikipedia

Wed Feb 08, 2006 at 07:09:09 AM PDT

Some of you may be aware of (or even involved in) some of the political tug of war that has been going on at Wikipedia where even the seemingly most innocuous topic can be the subject of Wiki POV flame editing, well this story has an added twist.

It seems that entries that have to do with particular members of Congress are being furiously edited - especially to make certain information more palpable. But is even more interesting is how the people at Wiki found who was doing the editing. It seems that people at Wikepedia sent emails to staffers on Capital Hill and when those emails where responded to, the IP addresses could be linked to various Congress offices - and the editing could be traced.

New Kurt Vonnegut Book

Tue Sep 13, 2005 at 04:26:29 PM PDT

As many of you know octogenarian writer Kurt Vonnegut has just released a new book titled A Man Without a Country and will be on tonight's Jonathan Stewart. Hooray. I also believe he is going to be on PBS's NOW in October. This new book is a collection of his writings over the past few years, some of which have appeared in the magazine In These Times.

Stories to End This War

Fri Aug 26, 2005 at 08:09:37 PM PDT

A story in "In These Times" by Dave Lindorff relates a story originally in the New York Daily New by Juan Gonzalez and is powerful enough that if repeated enough so that the general public actually knows about it, I believe it can plant the seeds to cut out the support from under this war.

Ashcroft - technophobe

Wed Nov 10, 2004 at 09:51:03 AM PDT

Isn't it odd, funny, and bothersome that Ashcroft would HANDWRITE a 5 page resignation letter. Doesn't he have access to a computer or maybe he doesn't know how to type.

I heard on the news that he hand wrote it because he didn't want it to be leaked - come on. Why can't he type it himself, does he not own a secure computer and printer.

I would expect an assistant manager in one of the departments at Walmart to handwrite a letter of resignation - but Jesus he's the AG of the US.

Really, this only confirms my view of most conservatives as somewhat technophobic in that they think of what is "real" business in a traditionalist viewpoint. Real business equals oil, transportation, brick and mortar retail (WalMart), insurance, banking, etc.

For them technology is not to be trusted. Oh they know they need to make use of the latest technology but they really would rather someone else did it.

Does anyone think of Tom Ridge as a technocratic geek? As head of homeland security you would think that he would be exceptionally knowledgeable  in that area and not just a political hack.
