I just found out a horrible thing: Dick Cheney hasn't called Scooter Libby once since the trial! I thought to myself, "How can that BE? Cheney is such a caring, compassionate guy, especially to those that work under him."
I think that I've uncovered the startling truth. Follow me below the fold to discover what it is, and HOW YOU CAN HELP!!
It seems that Mickey, like most vermin, is now into our food supply. The AP reports that Disney is licensing their characters for fruits and vegetables. Follow me into the cabbage patch to see who is giving Disney "lettuce" to increase their produce sales.
Since 1967, Florida state law (FS 286) mandates that when two members of the same public board meet to discuss "some matter on which foreseeable action will be taken by the public board or commission", the meeting must be open to the public.
This is apparently a foreign concept to the Republican National Convention, or at least their convention site selection committee.
Just another "let's rape the earth while we can" move by Bushist special interests:
The Florida Home Builders Association filed a lawsuit Thursday that could strip federal endangered species protection from as many as 90 state species -- among them manatees, crocodiles, bald eagles and five types of sea turtle.
I wrote my Senator (actually both of them) about the first Coburn amendment, and all I got was a trip to BizarroLand. The office of the Honorable Mel "On The Ball" Martinez sent me this:
Update [2005-9-12 7:36:0 by Rat]: Added links to the Gretna police barring evacuees from leaving NOLA, while FEMA would not allow the Red Cross in to force people to leave. SECOND UPDATE: Adding excellent data from "Suspect Devices" blog regarding "Hurricane Pam" among other things.
This is my attempt to fight with facts the Rovian "Politics Over Duty" email that's spreading lies to whitewash Bush, Chertoff and Brownie's accountability over the Katrina response.
First off, there are literally hundreds of people here that could have written this better and more succinctly than I. I post this here before sending it out to get your feedback.
I just had a good friend and former college roommate forward me that tripe about Bush "begging Blanco" to sign the paper to federalize the response efforts, and that it's all Blanco and Nagin's fault and the evil LIBRULS are trying to drag poor, poor Bush into the mud when he did all he could.
Condoleeza Rice's wardrobe must really be in a sad state when she had no choice but to go shopping for shoes instead of giving permission for international relief efforts to cross our borders. It's terrible that the Secretary of State of these United States can't perform her official duties due to a lack of appropriate footwear, and reflects badly on us all.
Evacuation of the Superdome has halted due to gunfire at a medivac helicopter, groups of armed people threatening paramedics, and arson fires set around the Superdome, preventing buses from getting near enough to embark passengers. (The flood waters still surround the Dome, so the buses have to get right up to it.)
UPDATE: FEMA suspends rescue efforts due to violence. (from CNN)
As police and National Guard troops struggled to restore order Thursday in New Orleans, federal emergency teams suspended boat rescue operations because conditions in the flooded city were too dangerous, officials said.
My wife and I have cancelled plans to attend an out-of-town get-together (irking some friends) and have volunteered to be "poll greeters" in Tampa. The Tampa Kerry office was swamped. People had signed up at Sunday's rally (like we did) and they were still working like crazy, getting people out to keep voters' spirits up. We'd like to know more about what we should be doing. We were told "entertain the voters so they don't get discouraged and leave." Um, ok. How? Can anyone help, please?
As an aside, I've never seen this sort of voter turnout in my life!
I just got an email from a friend about a "Fresh Start For America" Kerry rally at Curtis Hixon Park in Tampa on Sunday, Oct 31 at 8pm. Mrs. Rat and I have missed the previous ones, but we're going to be there for this one! I want to see in person how badly the SCLM undercount the crowd!
The staff of the Iconoclast, the Crawford TX newpaper of Bush's supposed "hometown", is being threatened with physical harm.
Excerpts:
The new mode of operation, I am told, is that when a newspaper prints an editorial of which some sectors might disagree, the focus is now upon how to run the newspaper out of business. Out the window are the contributions the newspaper has made to the community in the past and the newspaper's extensive investment in the community.
I just got off the phone with my mother, who has been wheelchair-bound due to a botched surgery to remove spinal tumors 20 years ago. She asked me, "Where are all the Kerry people in Mississippi?" I told her I would find out for her.
