Dood Abides Arrested in New Jersey
Mon Sep 04, 2006 at 11:35:08 AM PDT
(Disassociated Press) Trenton, New Jersey The
Dood Abides was taken into custody by federal agents at 3:00 am. Sunday morning. The number two man in al Qaeda had been boldly posing as a fake reporter for the nonexistent Rotters and APE news agencies. His arrest makes the second number two man for the terrorist organization arrested in less than a week. A spokesman for the Administration stated that this is the equivalent of capturing three number ones or killing one number six. During the raid, sources close to the investigation say they uncovered about one hundred explosive devices which contained some odd foreign writing. Agent Jim Middly told reporters, "It appears there are between seventy-five and one hundred M-80 purchased explosive devices here. If properly used these PEDs could be deployed to completely devastate a United States Postal Service letter and parcel containment unit. These units are federal property and both the Bureau and Homeland Security consider the destruction of federal property a serious crime."

Happy Birthday AnthonySF
Sat Apr 08, 2006 at 08:07:57 PM PDT
Yeah, that's right! Happy Birthday Dude!
Thought you'd get away scott free?
Anthony was born on this day in 1981. If you believe in brilliance or charm or goodness or love then he is a combination of these attributes. I am not sure if I should write a 20,000 word essay full of adjectives describing what a gentle spirit this young man has because I fear it would not do him justice. So I will say this:
Happy Birthday Anthony!
You are a tribute to this community!

So Fitzmas came and Fitzmas went. Not only that, Fitz is both a trick and a treat depending upon your perspective!
However, my passionate friends left of center, as I am not a Southern Catholic boy, I do not feel compelled to follow the ancient tradition of twelfth night. Therefore, let it be heard far and wide that I intend to toss my Fitzmas tree out on the curb today.

Or, in the case of some of you Crushies for Fitzie, you can put your
walmart specials back in the drawer only your grand jury knows about!

To be sure, I love fun and games. For me, Fitzmas Eve was about the anticipation, the snark, and the entertainment value of a floundering President and his Party. Fitzmas itself was
deadly serious and humbling as both an American and a human being. While my diary has opened with playtime, it is about to get immensely serious. Let's get significant!
The Blog Role: A Film! Who's In?
Fri Oct 07, 2005 at 02:31:58 PM PDT
So we are making a documentary starring you: the blogosphere.
Not just starring you, but including you. That is, if you want to be included. Do you?
Let's discuss it shall we?
Let's Send Our Own Journalists to NOLA and Beyond!
Fri Sep 09, 2005 at 11:01:42 AM PDT
This diary is short and sweet!
The liberal blogosphere is filled with talented freelance journalists and writers. Why don't we send one or more reporters to cover this story as it develops? It is really quite simple! Isn't epluribus media incorporated for this purpose?
This is an extremely simplified version of the primary phase of creating any project:
* Create Goals and Objectives
* Raise Funding
* Recruit Volunteer(s) Project Manager(s)
* Recruit Talent
* Choose Destination(s)
* Move Forward
At myleftwing the community is sending MSOC to DC to live-blog the protest on the September 24. Why not do the same now on a much larger scale?

Amazing Interactive Satellite Photos or Katrina Damage!
Sat Sep 03, 2005 at 12:27:50 PM PDT
NOAA has catalogued an amazing set of interactive satellite photos of the entire region affected by Katrina.
Old Fashioned Linking:
http://ngs.woc.noaa.gov/katrina/090E29M_KATRINA.HTM
Entire Gulf Region
It is really quite simple. Follow the link, then keep clicking on smaller and smaller squares until you find the region you are seeking and then zoom in or out on the photos. I know you are not dumb, but I am frazzled from lack of sleep, and it baffled me at first.
We are still searching my for my fiancé's mother's home, but have not found that square.
I will delete this diary if it has been posted already!
Good luck all!

Feds to Mayor: Relinquish Control or the City Goes Under?
Fri Sep 02, 2005 at 09:51:04 AM PDT
A blogger named Polimom has been contacting people on the West Bank of New Orleans and logging this info at his/her
blog.
In an entry entitled Some administrative stuff a poster fergie makes some observations about the situation on the ground. This poster claims that the Bush Admininstration is attempting to force Mayor Nagin to relinquish his role as administrator of the city before complete disaster relief will begin arriving.

A Phone Call to Algiers Point, New Orleans
Thu Sep 01, 2005 at 03:44:14 PM PDT
We Just got off the phone with a friend in Algiers Point. He can take calls, but can't dial out.
He has had little contact with the outside world since Katrina and the flooding ravaged New Orleans. He seemed to be unaware of the devastation on the other side of the river, since the West Bank has not experienced such extensive flooding. We were the first people to tell him that there is a massive evacuation of New Orleans and the surrounding parishes. He is not ignorant, dumb, or senile, but this is the current state of affairs in the city.

No Kossack, Left Nut, Boomanner, or Liberal Blogger Should be a Refugee!
Thu Sep 01, 2005 at 12:28:59 PM PDT
This is a brainstorming diary.
I am in full agreement with Chris Bowers brilliant diary which calls for the liberal blogosphere to make massive donations to existing charities. I also feel that very shortly it will begin to become apparent that the scale of this disaster is one in which this government and these charities alone are not equipped to address.
The lowest estimate I have heard discussed via the media for a safe return to New Orleans is three months. It is also clear that upwards of one million Americans are suddenly homeless, jobless, and in a state of shock at this time. To my knowledge, this has never happened in America. It is now time we admit that this is the largest catastrophe to ever occur within the United States.
More on the flip.
President Bush don't need to be the president....
Wed Aug 31, 2005 at 03:23:55 PM PDT
Moments after W's less than inspiring discussion of the devasation facing thousands and thousands of Americans, David Schuster of MSNBS was interviewing a young man from Biloxi about Bush's comments.
His hurt and rage spoke for many Americans!
I searched for video, but could not find it. Perhaps some enterprising Kossack will have more luck than I did.
After the flip, it is transcribed:
The Liberals Have Won! Get Over It!
Tue May 10, 2005 at 01:37:19 PM PDT
Much ado about the direction of democratic politics has been debated the last few days on this site. This has primarily stemmed from a couple of intense issues that often pit radical against liberal against centrist against moderately conservative. The fact is really pretty simple the left has won this war! Let me rephrase that. We haven't so much it as much as the moderate/right faction of the Democratic Party has lost it.
The inflammatory nature of the title might suggest that I have a desire to sit back and gloat, but that is not the truth at all. Instead I simply desire to offer and in depth explanation for my thesis. I believe it to be sound.

by Bill in Portland Maine has been recommended every single day since the policy of recommending diaries began. It is the most recommended diary in the history of DKos. It is one of or few traditions. I suppose like troll rating people who say first on threads on the main page.
Why should we break tradition because we are angry, lonely, tired, and depressed about the attempted theft of our nation. Let's read a little bit of happy news, drink our coffee, get out and FIGHT LIKE WARRIORS FOR OHIO

Collecting Smoking Guns
This is an important issue to me. I hope this pitiful diary expresses to my friends in the community why it should be important to you.
I understand that we are hoping to have an army of people serving as minders and legal guardians at polling places on Election Day. These valiant servants will most certainly play a crucial role in the election of John Kerry to the Presidency of the United States. However, I feel it is imperative that we do not get complacent and trust that these people can handle all crises that might arise. They will surely have their hands and ears full on November 2, 2004. We must be prepared to supplement their duties with our vigilance.

My Question is, is anyone here interested in making this a group thing?
My second question is, does W need to schedule his February tee times now or do ex-presidents just get to show up and golf?
Why I am a Tried and True Democrat
Thu Sep 02, 2004 at 10:24:18 AM PDT
(Standing up To Bullies)
this is long.
Despite now being a proud member of the Green Party, I truly consider myself a true Democrat. This statement is simply meant to explain my values and experiences which guide my heart, mind, body, and spirit as they collaborate to navigate life's difficult terrain. I am certainly not passing judgment on other members of this community.
I grew up on a small hippie farm. My mother and father were very poor although I had no clue of this fact at the time. I had what I needed, and these worries were mostly kept from me until I was older. Some of my earliest memories are of me sitting by my mother's side as she stitched together garments at the local sweatshop. I don't believe this lasted very long, as I was enrolled in what was the precursor to the Headstart program.

Sorry to post such a short diary.
For those of you who have had the luxury of working in an office with access the NJ, it can be a nice political read.
I have missed it since leaving the Hill.
On a side note, I used to believe that Republicans were generally decent but misled people. Now I am convinced they are all misanthropic assholes!

and Other Nonsense
After the dust of September 11, 2001 had settled and the Nation went to war I recall the unease I felt at being among the dissenters. I have never cared for the man who unlawfully occupies the Oval Office, and it is highly possible that I never will. It became all but illegal to criticize GWB and his policies. The mood of the country left me reminiscent of the fear I felt as a child growing up in a home that was not always suitable for small children. This was the first time I had felt that way in many years.
While watching the convention on C-Span, a woman from Tennessee was being interviewed. She was covered in buttons both anti-Bush and pro-Kerry. She apparently spends a great deal of her time working crowds in Memphis trying to alter hearts and minds. It suddenly struck me how many people live in this environment and mood for most of their lives. To those people I want to say thank you for being you and please find comfort knowing there are many who carry your water!
That's all. Read the rest if you are really bored.
